Joe Falin, Programs & Facilities Manager

Joe Falin has worked for Orange County for more than a dozen years. Working in the Office on Youth and Parks & Recreation, the facilitation of youth activities and involvement has been a consistent theme of his tenure. As Programs and Facilities Manager, Joe describes his responsibilities as “oversee[ing] the facilities and programs, as my title indicates, but I also manage all our special events, and [handle] some administrative functions.” He says his favorite thing about the job is “putting on a successful event and seeing all of the pieces come together.” Making pieces match up is a departmental specialty. P&R accomplishes all they do with a team of just a few. Joe said that other parks and recreation professionals are often surprised to learn about the many diverse responsibilities of his role, which might be spread among several staff in their locality.

What does a recreation professional do when not helping others recreate? “In my free time I’m spending it with my wife and two sons. I like to play video games whenever I can, and during the spring and summer months, I play in a men’s adult baseball league in Orange and surrounding counties,” Joe said. Perhaps unsurprisingly for someone in the field, as a kid, Joe wanted wanted to play professional sports (either baseball, basketball, or golf) when he grew up. While wrestling wasn’t on the list, he would choose Also Sprach Zarathustra (Ric Flair’s entrance song, also known from 2001: A Space Odyssey ) if he could have a theme song. In fact, it was played as the entrance song for his wedding reception. Solid choice, Joe! Keep up the good work.
