Administrator’s Minute
There is plenty of forward momentum in this issue as well. Parks & Recreation is investing in improvements at Booster Park and partnering to expand youth basketball opportunities, while the Office on Youth is seeking community input about future programming and launching a new program to help fathers strengthen their parenting, relationship, and communication skills. And, of course, fall in Orange County means there is no shortage of things to do. From festivals and community events to recreation programs and opportunities to support our local businesses, I hope you will find something in these pages that encourages you to get out and enjoy our community. As always, I hope you’ll take a few minutes to explore this month’s Insight. Behind every story, and behind the services our citizens rely upon every day, are people who care about this community. Our JUICE celebration was a great reminder of that. I am grateful for the employees, community partners, volunteers, and residents who continue to make Orange County such a special place to live, work, learn, and raise a family.
September always seems to bring a change of pace. Summer begins to wind down, school is back in session, fall activities are getting underway, and our calendars somehow seem to fill up just as quickly as the leaves begin to change. One of the highlights of the month was our Employee Appreciation event on September 16. We could not have asked for better weather or a better opportunity to spend some time together outside of our usual workday routines. JUICE is about more than an employee event; it is a celebration of the people who make Orange County government work every day. I enjoyed seeing everyone relax, laugh, visit with coworkers, and simply enjoy being together. My thanks to everyone who helped make the day possible and, most importantly, to all of our employees for everything you do for Orange County. This month’s Insight is also a wonderful reflection of the many ways our community continues to serve, prepare, and grow. We paused to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11 and honor the lives lost that day, while our first responders demonstrated through both remembrance and training the commitment to service and preparedness that continues today. September is also National Preparedness Month, a good reminder that each of us can take a few simple steps now to be better prepared when the unexpected happens.
Warm regards, Glenda Paul Orange County Administrator
