Michele Beamer, Wilderness Branch Librarian

“I have loved books and reading ever since I read my first Nancy Drew book when I was seven years old” says Michele Beamer, the Branch Librarian for the Wilderness Branch Library in Locust Grove. It’s a post she’s held since 1999, and her answer for why she was drawn to library work came quickly and easily. “I enjoy connecting the public with the books or information they’re looking for... some of my most positive memories working at the library involve going to the shelves and finding just the right book or resource for someone [then] seeing their reaction and excitement.” She says her favorite part of the job is collection development and trying to find books that will enrich the lives of the library’s patrons. However, she stresses that the library “is not always quiet” and that the job of a librarian is anything but reserved. “It’s a job that’s active, engaging, and public facing!” she says.

Since we’re sure everyone is wondering, Michele does not have a favorite book to recommend. However, she does have some favorite authors, notably Jonathan Kellerman and Heather Graham. “I love reading all kinds of mysteries from serial killers to cozies, and I recently enjoyed reading Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies by Catherine Mack.” Speaking of vacations, (albeit in a more light-hearted way), Michele says she’d love to visit London if she could travel anywhere. “I loved the Harry Potter books and movies, I’d enjoy seeing the filming locations and the places referenced” she says. Outside of things book-related, Michele is a die-hard Commanders fan. She loves visiting with her twin sons at college and is looking forward to some graduation craziness. To kick back, her favorite movie is Saturday Night Fever , and would pick You Should Be Dancing as her theme song because, “It’s just a really fun song!”

Thanks for everything you do to make the Wilderness Library a fun and inviting place, Michele!
